Download verification
Check the signing identity and the exact file you downloaded.
Webbi Networks signing identity
OpenPGP verification is optional. You do not need GnuPG or Kleopatra to install or run VaultKind. These checks add no application runtime dependencies and do not change VaultKind's Windows 10 and later compatibility.
Primary identity: Webbi Networks <security@vaultkind.dev>

Download public key (.asc) · Download fingerprint (.txt)
Compare all 40 fingerprint characters with a copy obtained through a separate official project channel, such as the public signing-key change on GitHub. A matching name or email address alone does not identify a key.
Press-kit downloads
A detached OpenPGP signature is available for the existing press-kit ZIP. Download all three files — ZIP, signature, and public key — to verify its signer and contents.

The SHA-256 checksum lets you compare file contents. A detached signature also binds those exact bytes to the signing key whose full fingerprint you checked.
Optional verification on Windows
If you choose to verify, use a compatible GnuPG installation. Gpg4win provides GnuPG and the Kleopatra certificate manager for Windows.
Download the public key into a folder you control. After independently comparing the fingerprint above, open PowerShell in that folder. The commands below inspect the downloaded certificate before importing it into a fresh public-only temporary keyring. They disable automatic key discovery and do not change your usual keyring.
1. Check and import the public key
$gpg = (Get-Command gpg.exe -ErrorAction Stop).Source
$publicKey = (Resolve-Path -LiteralPath '.\webbi-networks-vaultkind.asc').Path
$fingerprint = '0012D24994ABFAD13986A366CDA480EEB7B5EE3B'
$verifyHome = Join-Path $env:TEMP ('vaultkind-public-verify-' + [guid]::NewGuid().ToString('N'))
New-Item -ItemType Directory -Path $verifyHome -ErrorAction Stop | Out-Null
$publicOptions = @('--no-options', '--homedir', $verifyHome, '--batch',
'--no-auto-key-retrieve', '--auto-key-locate', 'clear')
$keyRecords = @(& $gpg @publicOptions --with-colons --fingerprint --show-keys $publicKey)
if ($LASTEXITCODE -ne 0) { throw 'Public-key inspection failed.' }
$primaryRecords = @($keyRecords | Where-Object { $_.StartsWith('pub:') })
$otherKeys = @($keyRecords | Where-Object { $_ -match '^(sec|ssb|sub):' })
$fingerprintRecords = @($keyRecords | Where-Object { $_.StartsWith('fpr:') })
if ($primaryRecords.Count -ne 1 -or $otherKeys.Count -ne 0 -or $fingerprintRecords.Count -ne 1) {
throw 'Expected exactly one public primary key with no subkeys or secret keys.'
}
$exportedFingerprint = $fingerprintRecords[0].Split(':')[9]
if ($exportedFingerprint -cne $fingerprint) { throw 'Public-key fingerprint mismatch.' }
& $gpg @publicOptions --import $publicKey
if ($LASTEXITCODE -ne 0) { throw 'Public-key import failed.' }
Write-Output "Public key fingerprint matches: $fingerprint"
Continue only if the final line reports the exact expected fingerprint. If gpg.exe is not found, open a new PowerShell window after installation or set $gpg to the installed executable's full path.
2. Verify a detached signature
Download press-kit.zip and press-kit.zip.asc into the same folder as the public key. Run these commands in the same PowerShell session after step 1 succeeds.
$inputFile = (Resolve-Path -LiteralPath '.\press-kit.zip').Path
$signature = (Resolve-Path -LiteralPath '.\press-kit.zip.asc').Path
$verification = @(& $gpg @publicOptions --status-fd 1 --verify $signature $inputFile)
if ($LASTEXITCODE -ne 0) { throw 'Signature verification failed.' }
$validSignatures = @($verification | Where-Object { $_ -match '^\[GNUPG:\] VALIDSIG ' })
$invalidStatus = @($verification | Where-Object {
$_ -match '^\[GNUPG:\] (BADSIG|ERRSIG|EXPSIG|EXPKEYSIG|REVKEYSIG|FAILURE|ERROR) '
})
if ($invalidStatus.Count -ne 0 -or $validSignatures.Count -ne 1 -or
($validSignatures[0] -split ' ')[2] -cne $fingerprint) {
throw 'Verification did not establish the expected primary signer.'
}
Write-Output "Verified exact file and signer: $fingerprint"
A successful result ends with Verified exact file and signer: 0012D24994ABFAD13986A366CDA480EEB7B5EE3B. Keep the ZIP and signature together; extracting or rebuilding the ZIP produces different bytes.
The temporary folder contains public data only. Close the verification session when finished. You may remove the exact folder shown by $verifyHome after checking its path.
In Kleopatra, inspect the imported certificate's full fingerprint before verifying the downloaded file and its detached signature. A trust warning is separate from signature validity: only accept a valid signature after independently confirming the full fingerprint. Do not mark unfamiliar keys as trusted merely to dismiss a warning.
Understand the result
A valid signature proves that the exact file was signed by the matching key. It does not prove that every claim or file in an archive is safe or correct, and it is separate from Windows application signing.
If a signature is bad, the fingerprint differs, or GnuPG reports a revoked or expired key or signature, stop and obtain fresh files from the official site. Do not ignore the error or substitute another key. Contact Webbi Networks if the problem persists.
